Weigh In and Challenge Check In!

Lots to talk about today, and since I'm actually feeling organized enough to break all of my updates into sections!

Weigh In Time!

I can't even believe I'm about to say this, but I lost 0.6 pounds this week.  I literally feel like I got away with murder on that one considering how foolishly I ate over the entire weekend.  Don't get me wrong, I am going to take it and be happy with it.  No inches lost though, which I can't be too mad about.  I am already a little bit anxious about next week's weigh in because we have the Holiday Ale Fest this Saturday, which is the epitome of "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions".  Long story short, you get like 15 tickets when you get in, and each ticket gets you a taste of beer (around an ounce).  Eric and I always give each other a pep talk about keeping it sane and not going over our allotted tickets.  That's all well and good, but what happens is that after about 5 tastes of 12% ABV winter beers, getting another 20 tickets sounds like an amazing idea.  Then eating a million bacon wrapped dates sounds like an amazing idea.  Then getting a giant pastrami on rye from Kenny & Zukes sounds like an even more amazing idea.  In other words, it's a shit show every year from which I'll wake up bloated, dehydrated and mumbling repeatedly about needing Jesus.  We looked at the beer list last night and again gave each other the pep talk, but I actually do mean it this year.  Feeling so horrid on Thanksgiving from too much indulgence was sort of like aversion therapy, and I'm not looking to feel so crappy again so soon.  Drinking a million glasses of heavy winter beer doesn't sound appealing, but of course I'm saying that sober.  I am going to sit down with the beer list again today and make notations on the tastes I am truly interested in and limit my tickets to those beers.  If I have extra tickets left over (which I doubt I will) I can always give them to some random soul in the tent.  I did that last year and got hugged by a stranger LOL.

Activity and Challenge Check In

It's amazing how just a tiny bit of body weight training will make you sore.  Just that 20 second plank from yesterday and the burpees made my arms so achy!  My plank today was definitely more difficult and I felt shakier, and the wall sit also felt more difficult.  And don't get me started on the burpees, that crap made my arms hurt so bad!  I got it done, but I can tell tomorrow is going to suuuuck!  Today's activities:

  • Stomach Formula Day 2
  • 30 day challenges (20 second plank, 10 burpees, 20 second wall sit)
  • 2 mile walk
Food Whatnots

Um, has anyone tried Wholly Guacamole?  I had not until today and that shiz is delicious.  I'm sure it's evident by my food logs, but I love my morning breakfast burritos (which really are just scrambled egg and a tortilla lol).  This morning I added one of the Wholly Guacamole single cup thingy's to my burrito and was in heaven.  I usually don't go for packaged foods like this, but every avocado I've picked up lately sucks, plus this helps me properly portion.  Super happy.  I ate my burrito at 7 am and it kept me going until 12:30!  I've also been digging adding frozen cranberries to my smoothies.  Obviously they are good for you, but they are also a nice counterbalance for smoothies where all of the ingredients are super sweet.  They are obviously dirt cheap right now and to quote Steel Magnolias, they "freeze beautifully", so go pick up a few bags and toss them in the freezer.  Just a tip from me to you.  Today's menu:

Breakfast:  Scrambled egg and guac burrito
Lunch:  Berry/Cranberry Protein Smoothie
Dinner:  Pasta with Tomato and Chicken Sausage sauce

Musical Advent - December 2nd Christmas Song

So my pick for today's Christmas song is "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" from the beautiful, unparalleled Darlene Love.  She is so amazing and oddly enough reminds me so much of my mother-in-law, who is one of the sweetest and most adorable ladies.  She and Darlene are both constantly smiling and have the same infectious little giggle, and honestly they kind of look alike lol.  I am not sure if you guys have heard of the documentary "20 Feet From Stardom", but it's about backup singers and the trials and tribulations that go along with all of that.  It won an Oscar for best documentary at this past Oscars, and I highly recommend it.  Miss Darlene is in it and her story is pretty amazing.  We had the honor of hearing her sing at the 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, and she is still exquisite.  Anyway, this song is ALWAYS on my Christmas playlist because it's beautiful, and because Darlene's range and breath control never cease to amaze me.


  1. Oh my god. I literally snorted at this line.... "I'll wake up bloated, dehydrated and mumbling repeatedly about needing Jesus." Chris just looked at me like I grew a second head. So I made him come and read it too! LOL

    And you are doing so awesome! .6 is still a loss!!!

    1. Seriously, that line has been uttered many times in this house, though less frequently as we've gotten older. We're trying to not be stupid this year. I do feel differently because usually we're like Stepbrothers, "Dude, it's the Catalina Freaking Wine Mixer" and all rules are thrown out. This year I'm like yeah, I can't feel like that again.

    I love how sober you is planning for the best but drunk you is all PASTRAMI YUM! You can do it! Do they have water available? Maybe force yourself to drink a lot of water between beers. You'll run out of room after a while. I've done that at wine tastings and it helps with the hangover the next morning.

    One of the hardest parts of the planks for me was how much my arms hurt. In fact, I have a raw spot on my elbow from planking with short sleeves. Go you and your planks!

    1. The Ale Fest is the best but the worst. You're in a heated tent with Christmas music, the smell of cinnamon almonds roasting, and ragingly awesome beer. I did sit down and write down the beers I wanted to try so I am going to try to stick with that! I can't eat as much as I used to, so I think a full pastrami on top of a bunch of beer would put me in the hospital. Unfortunately you can only buy water, which is totes bogus. I'm going to drink a ton of water before we go. On the planks do you do them with your elbows bent or arms straight? I've always done them with arms straight because that's how they're done in yoga, but maybe that's wrong?
